eManex History :
When
we first set out to design eManex in late 1999, we took
a long look at the needs of small and midsize manufacturers,
particularly contract manufacturers. We then examined many
of the powerful new software applications developed in recent
years that were intended mostly for larger companies. These
included business intelligence, CRM, sales force automation,
product document management, eProduction, automated customer
service, and ISO/QS 9000 quality management.
We
found that each of these types of software provided tremendous
new solutions that could significantly benefit small and
midsize manufacturers. But they were generally far too expensive
and complex for the needs and budgets of small and midsize
companies. In part this was because such systems are designed
to accommodate such a wide variety of different types of
companies and so had to include all the functions all of
these different companies might need. They also had to be
built with the complex technology required for integrating
the multiple operating platforms, numerous locations, and
wide variety of types of software that large companies typically
employ.
In
other words, these software applications provide a great deal
of functionality and complexity that small and midsize manufacturers
simply don't need and will never use. Yet to get the functionality
they required, small and midsize manufacturers would have to pay
for the whole package for each of these different and expensive
systems---which obviously isn't realistic.
The
solution to this Catch-22 soon became obvious to us: we would
design a system that takes those only those capabilities that
small and midsize manufacturers need from these other complex
applications and forget about all the redundant bells and whistles
and big-company complexity.
With
this end in mind, in 1999 we set about designing a new software
application. Right from the start we knew that the Internet offered
the best means to deliver the tools we wanted to provide our customers.
We were well into the project when Microsoft introduced their
.NET technology. It didn't take us long to realize that this provided
the perfect platform we needed to create the simple-to-use yet
powerful functionality we were after. 1-degree of separation was
definitely for us!
The
end result is a powerful yet easy to use new system that fits
the specific needs of small and midsize manufacturers, offered
at a very affordable price.
